On March 29,1974 the first Volkswagen Golf rolled off the assembly line at its manufacturing plant in Wolfsburg Germany. Since that day, Volkswagen has sold an astonishing 35 million units throughout the world which averages out to 780,000 each year, making it the most successful selling European vehicle ever sold.
The Golf’s rapidly growing success can be attributed to the fact that it was one of the first vehicles produced during that era that allowed millions of people to have increased safety technology right at their fingertips, and at a price that was considered affordable. As time evolved, the Golf adapted to the ever changing needs of its customers, and up until now it has unveiled seven different generations. As its popularity continued to grow, Volkswagen expanded the vehicles profile to include variations like the sporty GTI and Golf R, the spacious Golf Wagon and All-Track as well as the new electric e-Golf.
Some people say that you haven’t started living until you’ve hit your Forty’s and it looks like Volkswagen is going to stick to that theory. They have recently announced that we can expect to see the 8th Generation Golf roll off the line in Germany later this year!
